PUBLICATION ETHICS GUIDELINES

DESA (Journal of Design and Architecture)
(p-ISSN: xxxx-xxxx | e-ISSN: 2747-2469)

DESA is published by the Architecture Study Program, Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science, Universitas Komputer Indonesia, twice a year — in March and September. This journal serves as a medium for disseminating research findings in the fields of design and architecture to the academic community and the public.

DESA accepts manuscripts based on architectural design research written in Indonesian or English. Authors must declare that the submitted manuscripts have not been sent to or published in any other journal.

To ensure scientific integrity, all manuscripts must present accurate and accountable data. Articles accepted for publication will undergo a double-blind peer review process conducted by the DESA editorial board and expert reviewers, in accordance with the journal’s publication standards, research methodologies, and the relevance of the findings to the discipline. Editors are responsible for providing constructive evaluations and for communicating review results to the authors when necessary.

A. Article Categories
DESA accepts manuscripts in the following four categories:

1. Design Report Articles
Reports on original design outcomes that contribute to the development of ideas, approaches, or design concepts.
Example topics: building and interior design, site and urban design, public space, cultural or technology-based design experimentation.

2. Planning Report Articles
Reports on planning activities that form part of the design process, contributing to planning knowledge and practice.
Example topics: site and built-environment planning, settlement or regional planning, development strategies for rural areas, adaptive planning for climate and socio-cultural change.

3. Design Method Articles
Discussions on paradigms, approaches, data collection and analysis methods, or methodological issues in design and planning.
Example topics: participatory approaches, experimental methodologies, behavior and environmental analysis, digital technology applications (BIM, parametric design).

4. Discourse Articles
Critical studies or reflections on specific architectural subjects or phenomena.
Example topics: architectural theory and criticism, spatial symbolism and culture, sustainability issues, gender, digitalization, historical and interpretative studies.

B. Statement of Publication Ethics
The Publication Ethics Statement serves as a code of conduct for all parties involved in the publication process of DESA — including journal managers, editors, reviewers, and authors.

This policy is based on the Regulation of the Head of the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) No. 5 of 2014 concerning the Code of Ethics for Scientific Publications, which emphasizes three fundamental ethical principles:

1) Neutrality – Free from conflicts of interest in managing publications.
2) Fairness – Properly recognizing the rights of authorship.
3) Honesty – Avoiding duplication, fabrication, falsification, and plagiarism in all publication activities.

Authors are required to download and submit the Scientific Publication Ethics Clearance Statement and the Copyright Agreement Form as part of the manuscript submission process. The Copyright Agreement must be signed before publication.
