Aims and Scope
DESA (Journal of Design and Architecture) is a scientific publication medium aimed at disseminating knowledge, ideas, and research findings in the fields of design and architecture. This journal serves as a platform for academics, researchers, practitioners, and students to publish original, innovative, and relevant scholarly works that contribute to the advancement of architectural design knowledge and practice at local, national, and global levels.
The scope of the journal covers a wide range of disciplines related to design and the built environment, including:
- Architecture,
- Interior Design,
- Urban and Regional Design,
- Landscape Design
- Building Science and Technology,
- Design Methodology,
- Theory and Criticism of Architecture,
This journal encourages interdisciplinary and contextual approaches that integrate conceptual, formal, technological, social, and cultural aspects within the design process. Articles accepted for publication in DESA are categorized into four main types:
1. Design Report Articles
Contain final reports of original design works that contribute to the development of ideas, approaches, or design concepts.
Example topics: building and interior design, urban or public space design, design experiments based on local culture or new technology.
2. Planning Report Articles
Present reports on planning activities as part of the design process, contributing to planning knowledge and practice.
Example topics: site and built environment planning, housing and settlement planning, regional or village development strategies, adaptive planning in response to climate and sociocultural changes.
3. Design Method Articles
Discuss paradigms, approaches, data collection and analysis methods, or methodological issues in design and planning, accompanied by practical examples.
Example topics: participatory approaches, experimental methodologies, behavioral and environmental analysis, applications of digital technology, BIM, or parametric design.
4. Discourse Articles
Present research-based studies or critical reflections on specific objects or subjects, focusing on critique, reflection, or discussion from the author’s perspective.
Example topics: architectural theory and criticism, symbolism and spatial culture, issues of sustainability, gender, digitalization, and studies of architectural history and interpretation.
DESA accepts manuscripts written in either Indonesian or English, provided that the work is original and has not been published elsewhere. Each manuscript undergoes a peer-review process to ensure its quality and scientific contribution to the development of design and architectural knowledge.
