AI Policy

Artificial Intelligence (AI) Use Policy

Jurnal Komputika recognizes that artificial intelligence (AI), including generative artificial intelligence (Generative AI), may support certain activities in research and scholarly publishing. However, the use of AI must not compromise research integrity, authorship responsibility, confidentiality, intellectual property, transparency, or the independence of editorial and peer-review decisions.

This policy applies to authors, reviewers, editors, and other parties involved in the publication process of Jurnal Komputika.

  1. General Principles

AI tools must be used responsibly, transparently, and with appropriate human oversight.

Users of AI tools remain fully responsible for verifying the accuracy, originality, integrity, confidentiality, and appropriateness of any output generated or assisted by such tools.

AI-generated output must not be assumed to be accurate, unbiased, original, or appropriately referenced.

AI tools must not replace human accountability or professional judgment in research, authorship, peer review, or editorial decision-making.

  1. AI and Authorship

Artificial intelligence tools, including Generative AI systems, cannot be listed as authors or co-authors.

Authorship requires responsibilities that cannot be fulfilled by an AI system, including:

  • approving the final version of the manuscript;
  • taking responsibility for the accuracy and integrity of the work;
  • declaring conflicts of interest;
  • responding to questions concerning the research;
  • agreeing to publication and applicable copyright or licensing terms.

All responsibility for AI-assisted content remains with the human authors.

  1. Use of AI by Authors

Authors may use AI tools to support appropriate research or manuscript-preparation activities, provided that their use does not compromise academic integrity, research validity, confidentiality, or intellectual property.

Examples of AI-assisted activities may include:

  • language improvement and grammar correction;
  • translation;
  • assistance in coding or software development;
  • data analysis;
  • data visualization;
  • literature organization or summarization;
  • generation or refinement of text.

Authors must independently review and verify all AI-assisted content before submission.

Authors remain responsible for ensuring that:

  • statements and interpretations are scientifically accurate;
  • references and citations are genuine and appropriate;
  • AI-generated references or fabricated sources are not included;
  • copyrighted or confidential materials have not been improperly disclosed;
  • AI-generated text does not constitute plagiarism or inappropriate reuse;
  • data, figures, images, and analyses accurately represent the research performed.

AI tools must not be used to fabricate, falsify, manipulate, or misrepresent research data or findings.

  1. Disclosure of AI Use

Authors must transparently disclose the use of Generative AI when it has materially contributed to the preparation or development of the manuscript.

The disclosure should identify, when relevant:

  • the name of the AI tool or system used;
  • the purpose for which it was used;
  • the part of the research or manuscript affected by its use;
  • the extent of human review and verification performed.

Routine tools used solely for basic spelling, grammar, formatting, or reference management generally do not require disclosure unless their use substantially generates or modifies scholarly content.

The disclosure of AI use does not reduce the authors’ responsibility for the submitted manuscript.

  1. AI-Generated or AI-Modified Images and Data

The use of AI to generate, modify, enhance, reconstruct, or manipulate scientific images, figures, datasets, experimental results, or other research evidence must not result in misleading representation of the original research.

Authors must not use AI tools to create fabricated evidence or alter research data in a manner that changes the scientific meaning of the findings.

Where AI-generated or AI-assisted images, datasets, simulations, or visualizations constitute part of the research methodology, authors must explain their use sufficiently within the manuscript to allow readers to understand and evaluate the method.

Editors may request original data, images, source files, prompts, code, or other supporting documentation when necessary to evaluate the integrity of submitted material.

  1. Use of AI in Research Methods

When AI or machine-learning systems constitute part of the research methodology, their use must be reported with sufficient methodological transparency.

Where applicable, authors should describe:

  • the AI model or system used;
  • model or software version;
  • relevant parameters or configuration;
  • input data;
  • preprocessing procedures;
  • evaluation methods;
  • limitations;
  • procedures taken to validate the results.

The description should be sufficient to support evaluation and, where reasonably possible, reproducibility of the research.

  1. Use of AI by Peer Reviewers

Manuscripts submitted to Jurnal Komputika are confidential documents.

Reviewers must not upload submitted manuscripts, manuscript excerpts, figures, tables, datasets, supplementary files, or other unpublished materials into public or third-party Generative AI systems when such use may compromise confidentiality, intellectual property, privacy, or unpublished research information.

Reviewers are responsible for personally evaluating the manuscript and must not delegate the substantive peer-review process to an AI system.

AI tools must not be used to make or substitute for independent reviewer judgments concerning:

  • scientific quality;
  • methodological validity;
  • originality;
  • significance;
  • acceptance or rejection recommendations.

If AI-assisted tools are used for limited administrative or language-support purposes, reviewers remain fully responsible for the accuracy, confidentiality, and integrity of their review.

  1. Use of AI by Editors

Editors and editorial staff must protect the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and associated materials.

Editors must not upload confidential manuscripts, manuscript excerpts, reviewer reports, author identities, unpublished data, or other confidential editorial information into public or third-party Generative AI systems when doing so may compromise confidentiality, privacy, intellectual property, or unpublished research.

AI tools must not determine editorial decisions.

Decisions regarding manuscript acceptance, revision, rejection, reviewer selection, ethical assessment, or other editorial matters must remain under the responsibility and professional judgment of human editors.

  1. Confidentiality and Intellectual Property

Authors, reviewers, and editors must carefully consider the privacy, confidentiality, copyright, licensing, and intellectual-property implications of submitting content to AI systems.

Confidential, proprietary, sensitive, personally identifiable, or unpublished information must not be entered into AI systems without appropriate authorization and adequate protection.

Users are responsible for understanding the terms, data-retention practices, and privacy conditions of AI tools they choose to use.

  1. AI and Citation

Generative AI systems should not be treated as authoritative scholarly sources.

Authors must verify citations suggested or generated by AI tools against the original publications.

Fabricated, nonexistent, inaccurate, or misleading citations generated by an AI system are the responsibility of the authors and may constitute a breach of publication ethics.

Where the use of a specific AI system is itself the subject of the research or forms part of the methodology, it may be identified and documented appropriately within the manuscript.

  1. AI and Originality

The use of AI does not exempt authors from requirements concerning originality and plagiarism.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that AI-assisted or AI-generated material:

  • does not reproduce copyrighted material without permission;
  • is appropriately attributed where necessary;
  • does not contain plagiarism;
  • does not improperly reproduce confidential or unpublished content;
  • does not falsely present AI-generated material as empirical findings produced by the authors.
  1. Responsibility for AI-Assisted Content

Human authors remain fully accountable for all content submitted to Jurnal Komputika, regardless of whether AI tools were used.

Authors must be able to explain, defend, verify, and correct any AI-assisted material contained in their manuscript.

Statements such as “the AI generated the content” do not transfer or reduce author responsibility.

  1. Suspected Misuse of AI

Jurnal Komputika may investigate suspected inappropriate use of AI when there is reasonable concern regarding:

  • fabricated or falsified content;
  • nonexistent or fabricated references;
  • manipulated data or images;
  • undisclosed substantial AI-generated material;
  • breach of manuscript confidentiality;
  • plagiarism or copyright infringement;
  • falsification of peer review;
  • other conduct that threatens the integrity of the scholarly record.

Authors, reviewers, or editors may be asked to provide clarification or supporting documentation during an investigation.

  1. Editorial Actions

If inappropriate or unethical use of AI is identified, Jurnal Komputika may take appropriate editorial action depending on the nature and severity of the issue.

Such actions may include:

  • requesting clarification or correction;
  • requiring an AI-use disclosure;
  • returning the manuscript for revision;
  • rejecting the manuscript;
  • withdrawing the manuscript from the review process;
  • issuing a correction or other editorial notice;
  • retracting a published article where appropriate;
  • referring serious ethical concerns to relevant institutions or authorities.

Actions will be determined based on the circumstances of each case and the principles of publication ethics adopted by the journal.

  1. Policy Updates

Artificial intelligence technologies and standards for their use in scholarly publishing continue to evolve.

Jurnal Komputika may periodically revise this policy to reflect developments in technology, publication ethics, research integrity, applicable regulations, and recognized guidance for scholarly publishing.

Authors, reviewers, and editors are responsible for referring to the current version of this policy when participating in the publication process of Jurnal Komputika.
