Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy

Jurnal Manajemen Informatika (JAMIKA) recognizes that artificial intelligence (AI), particularly generative AI, may support certain activities in research and scholarly writing. However, its use must not compromise confidentiality, originality, transparency, accountability, or research integrity.

This policy applies to authors, reviewers, and editors involved in the publication process of JAMIKA.

1. General Principles

Artificial intelligence tools cannot be listed or credited as authors because they cannot take responsibility for the accuracy, integrity, and originality of scholarly work.

Authors remain fully responsible for:

  • the accuracy and originality of the manuscript;

  • the validity and integrity of the research data and results;

  • the accuracy and relevance of all citations and references;

  • compliance with research ethics and publication ethics; and

  • any content produced, revised, or supported using AI tools.

AI-generated output must not be regarded as an authoritative or primary source. Any information, interpretation, citation, code, image, or other material produced with AI assistance must be independently reviewed and verified by the responsible human contributor.

2. Policy for Authors

Authors may use AI tools in a limited and responsible manner to assist with language editing, grammar correction, translation, or improvement of readability. Such assistance must not replace the authors’ intellectual contribution, critical analysis, interpretation, or scholarly judgment.

Authors must not use AI tools to:

  • fabricate, falsify, or manipulate research data or results;

  • generate analyses, discussions, or conclusions without adequate verification and intellectual contribution from the authors;

  • create citations or references without verifying the original sources;

  • produce or manipulate images, tables, figures, or other research materials in a misleading manner;

  • conceal plagiarism or reproduce copyrighted material without appropriate permission and attribution;

  • misrepresent AI-generated material as entirely produced by the authors; or

  • process personal, sensitive, confidential, or restricted research data through publicly accessible AI services without appropriate authorization and safeguards.

Authors are fully responsible for all content submitted to JAMIKA, including content created or revised with AI assistance. The use of AI does not exempt authors from responsibility for plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, copyright infringement, inaccurate citations, or other violations of publication ethics.

Routine tools used solely for spelling, grammar, and basic language correction do not require disclosure. However, the use of generative AI to create or substantially revise text, code, analyses, tables, figures, or other manuscript content must be disclosed during submission.

When AI is used as part of the research method, data analysis, system development, or object of study, its use must be described transparently in the appropriate section of the manuscript. The description should include the name and version of the tool, its purpose, how it was used, and the procedures performed by the authors to verify its output.

3. Policy for Reviewers

Submitted manuscripts are confidential documents. Reviewers must not upload, copy, enter, or disclose any part of a manuscript—including its abstract, text, data, tables, figures, supplementary materials, or author information—to publicly accessible generative AI applications or other unauthorized third-party services.

Reviewers must not use generative AI tools to:

  • evaluate the scientific quality or originality of a manuscript;

  • analyze the research methodology, data, results, or conclusions;

  • identify strengths, weaknesses, or publication recommendations; or

  • generate substantive reviewer comments or peer-review reports.

Peer-review reports must reflect the reviewer’s own expertise, critical assessment, and professional judgment. Reviewers remain fully responsible for the accuracy, fairness, constructiveness, and confidentiality of their reviews.

Basic non-generative tools used solely for spelling or grammar correction may be used, provided that they do not transmit confidential manuscript content to an unauthorized external service.

Any suspected use of AI that may compromise confidentiality or the integrity of peer review must be reported to the editor.

4. Policy for Editors

Editors must protect the confidentiality of all submitted manuscripts and information obtained during the editorial and peer-review processes.

Editors must not upload, copy, enter, or disclose any part of a submitted manuscript, reviewer report, editorial correspondence, author information, or unpublished research material to publicly accessible generative AI applications or other unauthorized third-party services.

Editors must not use generative AI tools to:

  • assess the scholarly quality, originality, relevance, or methodological validity of a manuscript;

  • make or recommend editorial decisions;

  • select reviewers based on confidential manuscript content;

  • generate substantive editorial comments or decision letters; or

  • replace human editorial judgment at any stage of the publication process.

Editorial decisions must be made by qualified human editors based on the journal’s scope, editorial standards, peer-review reports, publication ethics, and scholarly judgment.

AI-assisted tools officially provided or expressly approved by the journal or publisher for administrative purposes, similarity checking, manuscript screening, or workflow management may be used only within their authorized functions and with appropriate data-protection safeguards. The final editorial decision remains the responsibility of the human editor.

5. Disclosure of AI Use

Authors who use generative AI beyond routine spelling, grammar, or basic language correction must disclose its use in the Comments for the Editor field during manuscript submission.

The disclosure should include:

  • the name and version of the AI tool, if available;

  • the purpose for which the tool was used;

  • the parts of the manuscript or research process affected by its use; and

  • a confirmation that the authors reviewed and verified the AI-generated output.

A disclosure may be written as follows:

During the preparation of this manuscript, the authors used [name and version of AI tool] for [purpose and affected part of the manuscript]. The authors reviewed and verified the output and take full responsibility for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of the manuscript.

When the use of AI directly forms part of the research methodology, analysis, system development, or production of research results, disclosure in the submission system alone is insufficient. The authors must also provide an appropriate explanation in the manuscript to ensure transparency and reproducibility.

Editors and reviewers must immediately inform the Editor-in-Chief if they have inadvertently used or disclosed confidential manuscript material through an AI service.

6. Violations and Editorial Actions

Failure to disclose substantial AI use, misuse of AI-generated content, submission of fabricated or falsified material, use of unverifiable or fabricated references, or any use of AI that compromises confidentiality may be treated as a violation of publication ethics.

Depending on the nature and severity of the violation, JAMIKA may take one or more of the following actions:

  • request clarification, correction, or disclosure from the authors;

  • return the manuscript for revision;

  • reject the manuscript;

  • terminate the peer-review or editorial process;

  • withdraw or retract a published article;

  • notify the authors’ institution or other relevant parties; or

  • impose other appropriate editorial measures in accordance with applicable publication ethics guidelines.

JAMIKA reserves the right to update this policy in response to developments in AI technology, research integrity standards, and scholarly publishing practices.
