The Role of Big Data in Development of E-Government and Dangers to Privacy

In this paper, it is observed that Big Data plays a central role in influencing the formation and efficiency of the E-Government systems and tackles the dangers of one of its primary concerns, namely the privacy risks. Greater use of Big Data technologies in government sectors has been associated with notable positive changes in the decision-making, service delivery, and transparency. Nevertheless, such developments have brought about concerns on personal data security, monitoring and possibility of privacy invasion. This paper examines the possibility of utilizing Big Data to enhance governance of the people, and also critically evaluates the possible ethical and privacy consequences to the citizenry. The results indicate that increased transparency, data protection, and more robust regulatory frameworks are very vital in establishing the trust of the population in the E-Government initiatives. The study accentuates the need to build a balance between the usefulness of Big Data and strong security measures to guarantee the sustainability of digital government systems in the long-term.
