Symbols Contained in the Characters of the Novel The Mango Season by Amulya Malladi

Abstract

The study "Symbols Contained in the Characters of the Mango Season Novel by Amulya Malladi" aims to uncover the secret meaning the author intended to express through the symbols he used to create his work. In this book, the sign analysis is done using the Objective technique. This study aims to define the symbols used in the book The Mango Season. The research in this study employs a qualitative descriptive methodology and focuses on the significance of symbols. While the description of symbols connected to the characters in this study uses Kennedy's theory which divides them into object symbols. Reading and recording methods were utilized in this study to acquire data. Primary and secondary data from the book The Mango Season were used. Data analysis was done by reading and comprehending the entire novel The Mango Season, creating a synopsis, explaining how a symbol appears at a crucial point in order to understand what it means, and drawing conclusions. The findings of this study suggest that there are multiple actual instances of a symbol that the novel's author is attempting to communicate through peculiar things that the book's readers might not be aware of. Among them is a scene in which Priya, a character, encounters the cultural disparity while in America.
